Expert system pestmanagement

The Laboratory for Applied Expert Systems Research (LAESR) at the University of Missouri-Columbia, in cooperation with the university's College of Agriculture, has prepared a prototype expert system for controlling corn-crop pests in Missouri. More information can be obtained from Dr. Allen Hahn, director of LAESR. In addition, Robert A. Benfer and Louanna Furbee, of LAESR and the anthropology department, presented a paper at the Agricultural Expert Systems Workshop (August 1992) entitled 'Representing partly shared knowledge in expert systems of terrace agricultural systems'. International Agricultural Systems Collection

The International Agricultural Systems Collection is a special service, based at the University of Missouri-Columbia, which specializes in materials relating to small farming systems in developing countries. Access to the collection is through an in-house microcomputer-based database which indexes pertinent items from the university's general collection and from pamphlets and other ephemeral literature. As of November 1, 1990, the database contained over 10,000 records. One of the primary purposes of the Agricultural Systems Collection is to identify 'fugitive' materials for scientists and lecturers who are interested in farming systems research. The collection covers a diverse range of disciplines, most notably agronomy, animal husbandry, communications, economics, engineering, health and nutrition, rural sociology, soil science and technology. A particular strength of the collection is its focus on women and their role in developing countries.
