Guidelines for contributions to the Indigenous Knowledge and Development Monitor
The Indigenous Knowledge and Development Monitor is published three times a year (in April, August and
December), preferably in two regular issues and one special
issue. Contributions should reach the editor respectively before 15 February, 15 June and 15 October.
Articles
- Not more than 1750 words
- If possible, please send us your text on paper as well as on disk. (Our computer only reads flat
ASCII
and Word Perfect; disks must be MS-DOS compatible; and either 5 1/4 inch, 360K, 1.2 MB or 3 1/2 inch,
720K, 1.44 MB.)
- Please add photos and/or illustrations to your article.
Make sure that there are no copyright problems.
Please provide us with a caption and the name(s) of the photographer or illustrator.
- Articles must be written in English. Concerning grammar and spelling: we use Collins Cobuild
English
Usage. We would greatly appreciate your contribution conform to its rules, if possible.
- References:
An author, when quoting someone else's work, should make sure that she/he is not infringing a
copyright.
- Please specify all references in the text by author, year of publication, and page numbers;
e.g.
(Warren, 1992:55).
In the list of references please state author (year of publication) title (in italics). Place of publisher:
publisher.
e.g.
Aboyade, O. (1991) Some missing policy links in Nigerian agricultural development.
Ibadan:
IITA.
- If it is a chapter in a book, or an article in a journal please give the title of the book/journal and the
page numbers. In the case of a journal please give the Volume and number.
e.g.

- Tables and figures:
These should be numbered according to their sequence in the text.
An author when considering reproducing a table or figure from a book or journal article should make sure
that she/he is not infringing a copyright.
- Lead:
Please enclose on a separate sheet three or four highlights from your article. These are especially interesting
excerpts which you think would attract the reader to read the whole article. This is not an abstract, but is
meant to draw the reader into the article.
We would also appreciate it if you provide us with a leading paragraph of around 80 words.

- Not more than 400 words
- Please make sure always to include your name, address and telephone/fax numbers.
