Database

Database of applied research projects

GARNET, the Global Applied Research Network, maintains a database of applied research projects in the water and sanitation sector. The projects are either ongoing or recently completed. The database is fully available online at http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/cv/wedc/garnet/dbase.html, and can be searched in various ways, for example by subject, keyword, or location. The database currently lists over 120 projects, a selection of which can be found on the research profile page: http://www.lboro.ac.uk/departments/cv/wedc/garnet/allacse.html. The projects have titles such as 'Gender issues in the management of water projects', 'Practical guidance on research dissemination strategies', and 'Modelling rainwater harvesting systems'.
The aim of GARNET is to make it easier for researchers working in the water and sanitation sector throughout the world to share their findings with each other. It does this through informal, low-cost and decentralized networking links. Above all, the network is:
- Global. It links research workers throughout the world, although its main focus is developing countries.
- Concerned with applied research that is, or can be, applied for the benefit of developing countries.
- Concerned with all aspects of specific topics in the sector. 'All aspects' includes technology, management, social issues, and issues of health.
- Free to anyone who wishes to join.
