FARMNET Asia
The Farmer-centred Agricultural Resource
Management (FARM) Programme for Asia was launched in 1993 as a five-year
programme (1993-1998). The participating countries are: China, India,
Indonesia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. The
programme has successfully demonstrated that it can bring the farm
households to the centre of decision making. The approach also builds
the capacity of farm households to collectively access, decide, plan,
implement, manage and be responsible for their own development on a
continued 'doing and learning process'. The approach
includes the cooperation and collaboration of government and
non-governmental organizations with the farm communities. FARM Asia has
come to a close after October 1998. On 25 September 1998, at the end of
the Third FARM Forum in Hanoi (Vietnam) FARMNET Asia was born.
FARMNET
Asia is to continue collaboration and networking among the eight
countries. It is an open network. Membership is open to countries,
institutions and organizations both government and non-governmental. At
the Third FARM forum a Work Plan was drafted consisting of commitments
made by the individual countries of FARMNET Asia will do and of
collective commitments. One of these commitments is to publish
FARMNET Asia News, a quarterly publication to disseminate news
and information and keep the networking linkage going.
