This is the place where you are accustomed to seeing the Guidelines for contributing articles to the Indigenous Knowledge and Development Monitor. But this is the last issue of the journal, and all current subscribers will soon be receiving the new Indigenous Knowledge WorldWide newsletter instead. It is therefore more fitting that we give you a brief description of the new publication and the new guidelines for contributions. Perhaps even more than for the Monitor, we welcome your contributions!

Draft guidelines for contributions to Indigenous Knowledge Worldwide (IKWW)
IKWW will be published 10 times a year, and will not contain articles. Thus far we envisage the following sections:

• Case studies involving IK;
• Calls;
• Conferences;
• News from the field;
• Research, projects;
• Methodology;
• Publications, book reviews;
• Relevant developments;
• Organizations and networks in brief.

Special issues devoted to topical themes will be published from time to time. For the year 2002, we are planning at least two special issues:

• Integrating IK into higher education;
• Intellectual property rights and indigenous knowledge.

Each month the editorial team will consider the situation and decide if a theme for another special issue is perhaps emerging. These decisions will be publicized well in advance, and we will invite specialists in the field in question to contribute to a special issue.

How to contribute?
Contributions should be brief, concise and clear.

• It is important always to keep in mind the newsletter's readership. For most of our readers, English is a foreign language, so please do not use long, complicated sentences. Try to express yourself in clear, unmistakable terms. Simple, short sentences can be a sign of clean logic and consideration for the readers, and not simplicity.
• Please provide a title that answers four questions: Who? What? Where? When?
• The first few sentences should be a summary of the main message you want to communicate. This 'lead' highlights the key questions and/or the main findings. These three or four lines will often be printed in bold face.
• The rest of the text should be clearly structured so that readers can follow your line of reasoning. It helps to break the text into short paragraphs, each devoted to one topic.
• End with a summary or conclusion. If possible, give some attention to policy recommendations or offer suggestions for further research.
• Provide a name and full address which readers can contact for more information. If there is a website, please give the most direct web address.
• A contribution should be approximately 400 words. If you need 600 words to make things clear, go ahead. But any contribution exceeding 1000 words will be returned to the author with a request that it be condensed.
