In september 2015 ondertekenden 193 landen de nieuwe ontwikkelingsagenda van de Verenigde Naties (VN). Deze agenda is de opvolger van de Millenniumdoelen en vormt tot 2030 het kader voor minder armoede en ongelijkheid op de wereld. De afspraken gaan naast armoedebestrijding ook over de aanpak van klimaatverandering en vrede en veiligheid. Ook Nederland heeft zich gecommitteerd aan de agenda. Maar weten Nederlanders eigenlijk wel wat de SDGs zijn? En aan welke van deze 17 doelen hechten zij het grootste belang?

Brexit en Trump: waarschuwing of inspiratie?

Over de invloed van de Brexit en Trump op het stemgedrag van de Nederlanders.

De Brexit en het presidentschap van Trump hebben bij 1 op de 7 Nederlanders een rol gespeeld in hun stemgedrag. Beide gebeurtenissen werkten daarbij vooral als een stimulans om een soortgelijke situatie in Nederland te voorkomen. Veel minder vaak diende deze gebeurtenissen juist als een inspiratie, met uitzondering van stemmers op de PVV. Dit blijkt uit een representatief onderzoek van Kaleidos Research onder ruim 1100 Nederlanders.

Football 4 Water 1.0 (2012 – 2016): Baseline – End line data comparison

Football 4 Water (F4W) is an innovative partnership aiming to address the continuing challenge of providing adequate water and sanitary hygiene (WASH) provisions in schools. Football 4 Water was implemented between 2012 and 2016, with a strategy to use football to teach boys and girls in primary schools about healthy living. Together with installing drinking water points and building toilets at their schools, the aim is to improve both the health of pupils and their performance at school.

Kaleidos Research conducted additional analyses on data collected by the partnership to gain a better understanding of the results of the programme. The report provides a summary of the main results of the Football 4 Water integrated WASH + Football in school programme as implemented in Ghana and Kenya between 2012 and 2016.

Mid-term evaluation of the Digital Defenders Partnership

Kaleidos Research conducted a mid-term evaluation of the Digital Defender Partnership, a programme aiming to increase safety for cyber activists under attack. The evaluation was commissioned by Hivos, that implements the programme. The mid-term evaluation assessed the effects of DDPs approach on critical internet users and the digital emergency response ecosystem as executed from the start of the programme in 2012 until now.

The Digital Defenders Partnership (DDP) was established by the Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) in 2012. The programme provides support, expert advice and funding to critical internet users. In addition, DDP supports the capacity of the digital emergency response eco-system by investing in key responders who provide services to critical internet users.

School-based water, sanitation and hygiene interventions

An effective means to promote hygienic behaviour amongst school children.

Despite the many global efforts that have been made to improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), countless people still rely on unimproved water-sources, do not use improved sanitation facilities and practice open defecation. School-aged children are likewise affected by inadequate WASH conditions through poor school environments that often facilitate the spread of diseases. This factsheet, that was developed for Aqua4All, explores to what extent school-based WASH approaches in primary schools lead to an improved hygiene behaviour in primary school pupils.

Nederlanders & duurzaam regeerakkoord

Terwijl de Amerikaanse president Trump de stekker uit het klimaatakkoord van Parijs heeft getrokken, blijven de verwachtingen in Den Haag hooggespannen. De roep in de samenleving om een duurzaam regeerakkoord is groot en breed gedragen. Maatschappelijke organisaties, bedrijven, wetenschappers: allemaal verlangen ze dat het nieuwe kabinet klimaatverandering stevig aanpakt en ruim baan maakt voor duurzame initiatieven.

Maar wat vinden Nederlanders eigenlijk van deze oproep tot een duurzaam regeerakkoord? Hoe belangrijk vinden zij dit thema in vergelijking met andere actuele onderwerpen, zoals migratie en gezondheidszorg? Speelde dit thema een rol bij de partijkeuze van de afgelopen verkiezingen? En staan zij achter mogelijke voorgestelde duurzame maatregelen, zoals een vleestax en een heffing op CO₂? Kaleidos Research zocht het uit.

Evaluation of Share-Net International, the knowledge platform on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)

Kaleidos Research and the International Centre for Reproductive Health (ICRH) of Ghent University evaluated Share-Net International, the Knowledge Platform on SRHR including HIV and AIDS. Share-Net International comprises Share-Net Netherlands and three other country nodes, in Bangladesh, Burundi and Jordan. The main goal of Share-Net International is to strengthen linkages between research, policy and practice in the field of SRHR, including HIV and AIDS, through sharing, generating, translating and promoting the use of knowledge. This evaluation assessed the progress of Share-Net International in relation to its mandate and objectives and formulated recommendations to strengthen the platform, ensure its continuation and improve its ability to realise its objectives. The report consists out of two volumes; a main report in which the background, methodology, findings and recommendations are discussed and a volume with annexes of surveys, interview guides, observation lists and interviewees. The volume with annexes is available on request.

Shifting Roles – The Impact of the Dutch Aid and Trade Agenda on Dutch Actors

In 2012, the then newly formed Dutch VVD-PvdA cabinet brought the policy areas of international trade and development cooperation under the mandate of a single minister. One year later, in 2013, the ‘New Agenda on Aid, Trade, and Investment’ was launched with several instruments designed to incentivize actors in Dutch society to contribute to the agenda. Four years later, there is still limited knowledge about the impact of the ‘new’ agenda. This discussion paper analyzes the changing roles of actors in the Netherlands involved in the ‘aid and trade’ agenda. By focusing especially on civil society organizations and the private sector, and mainly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), this paper aims to contribute constructively to the discussion about the future policies in the field of combining aid and trade.

Nederlanders & de wereld 2016

In “Nederlanders & de Wereld 2016” beschrijven we voor het vijfde opeenvolgende jaar hoe duurzaam Nederlanders van 18 jaar en ouder zich gedragen. Ook laten we zien hoe Nederlanders denken over de wereld. Zien zij mensen wereldwijd als gelijkwaardig aan elkaar? Erkennen ze de wederzijdse afhankelijkheid in de wereld? En denkt men zelf mondiale vraagstukken als klimaatverandering mee te kunnen helpen oplossen? Ook brengen we de stand van zaken over de deeleconomie in Nederland en het draagvlak voor ontwikkelingshulp in Nederland in 2016 in beeld.

Deze jubileumeditie biedt daarnaast een terugblik op vijf jaar onderzoek naar mondiaal burgerschap in Nederland. Welke lessen kunnen we hieruit leren?
