Boubacar Ba
Boubacar Ba is a jurist and has a degree in law from the National School of Administration in Bamako. He is currently an expert in conflict resolution, small arms project management and local governance in Mali with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He is also a consultant for several international organizations and writes books and articles on the issues of development, governance and justice in Mali.
The ongoing conflicts in Mali are often taken as one and portrayed in relation to religious extremism, irredentism or plain criminality, overlooking tensions arising from changing socio-political relations at the local level. This is particularly true for the Mopti region, in Central Mali, where customary and state institutions clash in an increasingly fragile context.
