Conor Foley
Conor Foley has worked in over a twenty conflict and post-conflict zones for a variety of UN and non-governmental human rights and humanitarian organizations. His latest book The Thin Blue Line: how humanitarianism went to war was published by Verso in 2010. He has also recently edited a book, Another System Is Possible: Reforming Brazilian Justice and is currently working on the second edition of a manual Protecting Brazilians against Torture. He is a Visiting Professor at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC Rio), a Research Fellow at the Human Rights Law Centre, University of Nottingham and a Visiting Fellow at the University of Essex.
The protest movement in Brazil has been likened to an awakening giant, that is now suddenly out of control. Revolutions and riots are difficult to keep up with and the piece that I wrote here was slightly out-of-date even before it appeared.
