Maarten van den Berg
A political scientist by training (University of Amsterdam, York University, Canada), Maarten van den Berg is former senior editor of The Broker,an independent magazine on globalization and development. Before he joined The Broker in 2011, Maarten worked as a communication and knowledgement professional for a variety of international organizations, and still has his own consultancy, RISQ. After work, Maarten loves to cook and shares in the care of his son Titus.
Neither within the EU nor within ACP countries, the ACP-EU partnership is something that lives in the hearts and minds of citizens.

On Monday 18 April, a crowd of 120 or so gathered in the hall of the Free University in Amsterdam for a lecture by Shi Yinhong, professor of international relations at Renmin University of China. In his lecture, the seventh in a series on ‘global values’ organized by the Society for International Development (SID) Netherlands Chapter, Mr Yinhong assessed China’s adherence to ‘universal norms’ in its efforts to address global security challenges such as nuclear proliferation and transnational terrorism.
