Tone Sommerfelt

Tone Sommerfelt is an anthropologist who works as a senior researcher in the Oslo-based Fafo Research Foundation. She has lived and worked in West Africa for several periods since 1992, and has conducted fieldworks in The Gambia and Mali on issues pertaining to social structure, dynamics of identity and rank, and politics of faith. Her research has also focused on child labour, fosterage arrangements and forms of human mobility in West Africa as well as in Haiti, Jordan and Morocco. Sommerfelt has written papers and reports commissioned by international development organisations (Unicef, ILO, and others), the Norwegian Research Council, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NOREF. She received her PhD from the University of Oslo in 2013.
