A lot still needs to be done when to achieve the MDGs (millennium development goals) and other important development goals. Europe could play a very important role in this process. However, it is unclear what the European perspective or approach is. Important development goals cannot be achieved if countries in Europe do not work together. Nevertheless, there are a number of issues where there is a stronger sense of a common European stance, such as environmental issues, (in)equality and gender.
