How to solve the growing global food crisis? The mounting impact of global food shortages poses an increasing human and international security threat to the lives of millions across the world. In order to lift people out of poverty and ensure food security, a drastic shift is needed towards a more sustainable, resource-efficient and climate-smart agriculture. The challenges ahead are discussed at several conferences all around the world.
The Broker covered the NASAC-KNAW Conference on Climate Change and Food Security (23-25 February 2011 in Nairobi) and the ‘It’s Down 2 Earth’ conference on agriculture, food security and climate change in The Hague (October 31- November 5, 2025). The Broker asked participants to share their views and reflections on the conferences. The Broker will continue to follow the emerging debate for a new agriculture for food security. Furthermore The Broker published two articles in the newsletter ‘Mondiaal’ (January 2011) of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I). With one article about what topics should be prioritised and another about how to move forward with the outcome of the conference.
