We collect information, produce summaries, analyses and syntheses and, together with our clients and partners, we propose strategic policy options. In this way, our experienced knowledge brokers and our network can lighten your workload considerably. The Broker is a flexible organization, working constantly with our clients to develop new products. We work fast and deliver high-quality products that are tailored to your requirements. Our prices vary depending on the scale of the assignment.

Would you like to make use of The Broker’s products? We have the following building blocks on offer:

  • The development of digital web environments and knowledge platforms: are you looking for ways to conduct policy discussions digitally? We can design multifunctional knowledge platforms, facilitate online discussions, collect expert opinions and present stakeholder analyses. The Broker is actively involved in three knowledge platforms of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Include, Food & Business and Security & Rule of Law .
  • Policy analyses, recommendations and synthesis reports: are you looking for a partner that can help you write an in-depth policy analysis, a recommendation or a synthesis report? Our knowledge brokers are specialists in these areas, and we can call in the help of experts in our networks. That enables us to deliver fast, tailor-made results. Take a look at the report on Precarious Work that we produced for Mondiaal FNV. We also produced several consulting reports on the post-2015 agenda (the successor to the UN Millennium Development Goals) for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  • Consultations with experts: do you want all the relevant opinions and backgrounds of a subject – and fast? The Broker is specialised in consultations, both online as well as face-to-face. We actively seek the knowledge and opinions of experts, professionals in the field and policy-makers. For her letter to the lower house of parliament on Food Security, minister Ploumen of Trade and Development Cooperation made use of a consultation that our knowledge brokers produced for the knowledge platform Food & Business. In 2015, The Broker organised a consultation for the minister on the question of how inclusivity of the development policy in sub-Saharan Africa can be increased. This consultation was also in preparation of a policy letter to the lower house of parliament.
  • Expert meetings and conferences: are you looking for a partner who can quickly organize and help prepare a meeting between academics and practitioners? The Broker has many years of experience with expert meetings. In 2014, we organized a meeting on the Circular Economy for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as part of the post-2015 agenda process. The Broker produced a dossier on the issue, invited experts, moderated the meeting and delivered a report on it shortly afterwards in two languages. Earlier in the same year, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we organized a meeting of 25 experts on how the investments of the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation can lead to the creation of more and better quality jobs. Read our report on this meeting. The Broker also organizes larger conferences including, in 2013, The Broker Day in the Culturalis Theater in The Hague’s Schilderswijk (one of the poorest areas in the Netherlands) on the theme of Inequality. The guests included Lilliane Ploumen, Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation. The theme of the 2014 Broker Day, held at the National Trade Union Museum in Amsterdam, was Employment. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment Lodewijk Asscher was the main speaker.
  • Research uptake: do you want research to be used more efficiently for and by policy-makers? The Broker was founded to bridge the gap between academic and scientific research and policy. We have accumulated considerable expertise and developed a wide range of tools to bring the very different worlds of academia and policy closer together. In doing so, we have forged links between long-term research cycles and usually short-term policy cycles. An example is our CoCooN project on the connection between raw materials and conflict, where we helped various research consortia to open up their scientific findings to a larger audience.
  • Mapping knowledge and literature: do you want to enter into a new field or to find out how much research has been done worldwide on a particular subject? The Broker can help you to do that. We have an extensive overview of relevant literature and our knowledge brokers have substantial experience in quickly classifying and analysing large quantities of knowledge, and making it accessible. Take a look at examples of our online dossiers: Middle Class, research article: Small but Powerful and our dossier on Small and Medium Enterprises.
  • Living analyses: do you need analyses that are updated regularly, so you can take account of current developments and the latest insights? While working on the Sahel Watch programme, The Broker has developed a tool that makes this possible: the living analysis. New analyses, live information from people on location and continually updated overview charts paint a sharp and concise picture of how the situation is developing.
