Jeroen van den Bergh is ICREA research professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Spain, and professor of environmental and resource economics at VU University Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His research focuses on the interface between economics, environmental sciences and innovation studies. He is currently examining the economics of climate change, and applying behavioural and evolutionary economics to understand large-scale social-technological transitions to sustainable energy and transport systems. From 1997 to 2007 he was professor of environmental economics at VU University Amsterdam. He was a member of the Energy Council of the Netherlands and of the advisory council of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, as well as chairman of various programmes related to social and environmental sciences of the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). In 2002 he was awarded the Royal/Shell Prize for his research.
