Suzanne Kiwanuka

Dr Suzanne Kiwanuka is a senior lecturer in Health Policy Planning and Management at Makerere University School of Public Health (Kampala, Uganda) with a passion for and vast experience in health systems strengthening and evidence based policy making. She is co-team leader under the Supporting Policy Engagement for Evidence Based Decisions for Universal Health Coverage in Uganda (SPEED) and principal investigator and coordinator at the Knowledge Translation Network Africa (KTNet Africa), a shared platform for health systems knowledge translation in sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to that she worked together with the Cochrane Centre (Effective Practices and Organization of Care Group, Oslo, Norway) and the Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Coordinating Centre (EPPI-Centre, a part of the Social Science Research Unit at the Institute of Education, London) involved in synthesizing policy relevant evidence for strengthening human resources for health particularly in Low and Middle Income Countries.

Breaking down silos is the first step towards fruitful policy making

Current policy making in international development lacks the right balance between economic, environmental and social benefits. In order to make policies sustainable, such a balance should be sought more forcefully.
