Safeguarding biodiversity and ecosystem services is essential to meet the basic needs of the poor. But how to integrate them in the post-2015 development agenda?

José A. González is an Associate Professor at the Department of Ecology, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he has been lecturing on Ecology and Natural Resources Management for the last 6 years. Before that, he had spent almost 12 years working in Latin America for the Spanish International Cooperation Agency. He is now part of the Social-ecological Systems Lab (www.uam.es/socioecosistemas) and his current research topics include ecosystem services evaluation, landscape planning, and adaptive governance in social-ecological systems.
