Yongjun Zhao is Assistant Professor of Globalization Studies and Humanitarian Action, and Project Manager with Globalization Studies Groningen at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. His research focuses on the social and institutional dimensions of natural resource governance concerning land tenure reform, land administration, land acquisition, land market, community forestry, water resources management, rangeland management, food security, rural development and governance in China and Africa, and China’s engagement with Africa on agricultural and sustainable development issues. His book China’s Disappearing Countryside: Towards Sustainable Land Governance for the Poor, published by Ashgate, is due in March 2013. He was formerly Governance Adviser at the UK Department for International Development.
